Amanda specialises in contentious issues relating to all areas of commercial and residential property advising and acting for landlords, tenants, developers and investors.

Amanda’s expertise in commercial property disputes encompasses Landlord & Tenant Act 1954 lease renewals including opposed renewals, forfeiture actions, rent recovery, service charge disputes, dilapidations claims enforcement of covenants, advice relating to withholding of consent to assign/sublet/carry out alterations, original tenant liability and liability of guarantors, rent review advice, disputes over rent deposits and property insolvency issues.

Amanda’s expertise in residential property disputes encompasses rent recovery, service charge disputes, enforcement of covenants, possession proceedings (both Rent Act and Assured Shorthold Tenancies).

She also has particular expertise in leasehold enfranchisement both under the Leasehold Reform Act 1967 and of the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993 and is experienced in advising in modification/release of restrictive covenants and boundary disputes. She also has considerable experience in mediation.

Amanda is a member of the Property Litigation Association, Women in Property and the Dilapidations Forum.

Recent work advising

  • the administrators of a company resisting a landlord’s claim for rent to be paid as an expense of the administration
  • on behalf of a large restaurant chain in relation to its application for a new tenancy of its flagship restaurant under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 where the landlord opposed on the ground of redevelopment
  • a residents association in an application to the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal for a determination as to the reasonableness of the service charge
  • on a challenge by tenants as to the reasonableness of service charges on a large block comprising in excess of 100 flats

Random fact

Amanda enjoys sailing and windsurfing but has not yet mastered mountain boarding - she has the scars to prove it!
